The Swedish-Chinese company Polestar has unveiled a concept electric roadster O2 (the chemical formula of oxygen). So far, this car has the status of a purely experimental development, however, according to the company's boss Thomas Ingenlath, a production car of this format may appear in the future.
The exterior of the Polestar O2 echoes the Precept concept sedan shown in 2020: similar body proportions, a sloping roofline, and plastic exterior body panels with a combination of smooth shapes and sharp edges. Recall that Precept in 2024 should be reborn as a serial sedan.
The overall length of the O2 is about 4.6 m, the landing formula is 2 + 2 (that is, two full-fledged seats in front and two trimmed ones in the back), the roof is rigid, folding on servo drives, with panoramic segments.
At the heart of the O2's design is an aluminum platform shortened by about 40 cm, designed specifically for the upcoming Polestar 5 sedan. This chassis is designed at the Polestar Engineering Center in Warwickshire, UK, and features incredibly high torsional and flexural rigidity, at the level of supercars.
The vehicle uses recycled materials to the maximum, including recycled aluminum and polyester.
One of the unusual additions to the Polestar O2 is a self-contained cinematic drone. Thanks to the negative pressure zone created by the two bulges behind the passenger compartment, the copter can be launched even while the electric vehicle is moving at speeds up to 90 km/h. The video he shot can be edited directly on the 15-inch touch screen of the standard media system.
The technical characteristics of the machine are not specified. It is only indicated that the machine is equipped with a purely electric power plant.
Polestar does not plan to release a roadster until 2025, but if such a car does appear on the market, it will become a competitor to the upcoming American Tesla Roadster.
Polestar is a joint venture between Sweden's Volvo Cars and China's Geely Holding.
