China's Geely Automobile has acquired a 17% stake in British super-luxury car maker Aston Martin Lagonda, making it the third-largest shareholder after Jewish-Canadian tycoon Lawrence Stroll and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
Along with the increase in its stake in Aston Martin Lagonda, Geely received the right to be represented on its board of directors. Interestingly, under the terms of the deal, Geely cannot increase its stake in Aston Martin Lagonda until August 2024. The reason for this limitation remains a mystery.
Aston Martin Lagonda is on an all-time high - investment is flowing, record sales continue to grow, the lineup is unprecedentedly wide - eight new Aston Martin brand new products will be introduced in the next three years alone. And this is against the background of the global economic crisis and high political uncertainty.
