Citroen shuts down C5 production in Europe

Citroen

The French concern PSA Peugeot-Citroen announced the cessation of production of the Citroen C5 in Europe. The last copy of this model was released in French Rennes on June 1st. The station wagon became the final car (sedans left the assembly line in March).

For ten years, Citroen has produced 430 thousand copies of this model, in recent years the demand for it has been extremely sluggish. For this reason, all gasoline versions were removed from the range and the C5 was no longer supplied to many markets (including Russia).

Along with the Citroen C5 family, the unique Hydractive hydropneumatic suspension, developed back in the fifties, also went down in history. The refusal of the Hydractive suspension in the company is motivated by the fact that it is too complicated and expensive.

However, the production of Citroen C5 sedans continues in China. There, the model is produced with a modified appearance and a new interior, but with a conventional spring suspension. These copies are sold only in the domestic Chinese market.

In 2018, the new Citroen business class will be launched in Europe, which will have a design in the style of last year's Citroen CXperience concept and a Citroen Advanced Comfort spring suspension with hydraulic buffers.
