The concept Cadillac LYRIQ showed the vector of development of the design of the American brand

Cadillac will add an electric crossover to its range, but so far the company has not presented a production model, but only a concept car. LYRIQ not only points to electric mobility ambitions, but also showcases the style of all the brand's upcoming new products.

Cadillac has already experimented with electric vehicles: in 2013, the company launched the Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid coupe with external charging capability. But the car failed miserably: the Americans did not want to buy a "glamorous" version of the Chevrolet Volt with an extra charge of $ 35,000 (almost twice) relative to the original.

However, no brand can now get away from electrification, so sooner or later Cadillac will also start producing electric vehicles. At the heart of the Cadillac LYRIQ is GM's new modular platform. The battery with a capacity of 100 kWh should provide 480 km of run on one charge. Stations with power over 150 kW are supported.

Separately, driver's ambitions of an electric car are mentioned. In the serial incarnation of the basic version, it will receive rear drive wheels, and the battery will be arranged in such a way as to provide a low center of gravity and a 50:50 weight distribution along the axes.

Of particular interest is the design of LYRIQ, because the company's gasoline cars will be made in a similar vein. A huge lattice with a corporate heraldic logo stretched almost to the entire front. The car's side vertical stripes and the lower part of the "grill" are illuminated.

Rear lighting is also made non-standard. In the upper part there are large angular lanterns that climbed onto the roof racks. From below on each side there are additional vertical sections.

Cadillac's production electric car will probably be a little more modest, but the company said the LYRIQ's design is about 85% consistent with the final product.

The cabin has a 33-inch display that functions as both a digital instrument cluster and an entertainment system screen.

While the Americans do not name the timing of the start of production of the first electric car under the Cadillac brand.
