Cadillac LYRIQ will hit the luxury electric vehicle segment with a low price

Cadillac

In early August, Cadillac introduced the LYRIQ concept car, which is essentially a harbinger of the brand's first mass-produced electric car. The company is positioning it as a competitor to the Tesla Model X, and today there is information about the estimated cost of the future novelty.

According to Automotive News, citing General Motors North American President Steve Carlyle, to succeed with its debut electric cross, the brand needs to sell it at the same price as cars with internal combustion engines. Considering that mid-size luxury crossovers cost about $60,000 in the US market, the LYRIQ will have the same cost. Note that the currently most popular model in the electric crossover segment, the Tesla Model X, costs at least $79,990 in the US.

In addition to the premiere of LYRIQ, Cadillac is going to develop its Super Cruise adaptive cruise control, which may in the near future be comparable in quality to Tesla's level 2 autonomous driving system.

At the heart of the Cadillac LYRIQ is GM's new modular platform. A battery with a capacity of 100 kWh should provide him with 480 km of run on a single charge. Stations with power over 150 kW are supported.

Separately, the driver's orientation of the electric vehicle is mentioned. In the serial basic version, it will receive rear drive wheels, and the battery will be arranged in such a way as to provide a low center of gravity and a 50:50 weight distribution along the axes.

Production of the production version of LYRIQ will begin in late 2022 or early 2023.
