The Cadillac lineup has been replenished with a new five-seater XT5 crossover, which has replaced the SRX model. The world premiere of the novelty took place at the Dubai Motor Show, and it will be shown at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
It is already known that the XT5 will be the flagship of a new series of Cadillac crossovers with the letters XT, as well as a number indicating the relative size and position in the model line. The external and internal appearance of the XT5 is fully consistent with the current design direction of the brand.
The new model is very close in size to its predecessor. Compared to the SRX, the novelty has received a wheelbase increased by 50 mm and a body that has become only 6 mm higher. The remaining parameters even decreased: length - by 19 mm (up to 4815 mm), width - by 7 mm (up to 1903 mm). More importantly, the XT5 is 126kg lighter than the SRX.
The increase in the size of the wheelbase made it possible to make the interior more spacious. Compared to the SRX, rear legroom has been increased by 8.1 cm. In addition, the rear seat folds and moves longitudinally. The interior decoration uses elements of manual cutting and tailoring.
Cadillac XT5 will be sold globally. In the US market, the model will be offered with a new 3.6-liter V6 engine (310 hp, 366 Nm), which is also intended for the ATS, CTS models and the forthcoming CT6 flagship sedan. The unit can operate on four cylinders (at low or medium load) and has a start-stop system. In the Chinese market, the XT5 will be offered as standard with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, which is also equipped with a start-stop system.
Already as standard, the Cadillac XT5 will be equipped with a new eight-speed “automatic” with the Electronic Precision Shift system. Cadillac says it is the brand's first automatic transmission with electronic shift control. In the cabin, it gives out a new joystick selector. The compact gearbox control unit made it possible to place an additional storage compartment under the center console.
The base Cadillac XT5, like the second-generation SRX, will be front-wheel drive. An advanced dual-clutch automatic all-wheel drive system will be available as an option.
Other interesting innovations include an interior rear-view mirror with a camera. It improves visibility to the rear of the car by 300% with a display that replaces a conventional interior rearview mirror. A high-speed camera records an image of the space behind the car with a much larger coverage area, transmits information to a processing unit with special software that “removes” all obstacles and rear seat passengers from the driver’s field of vision and displays a “clean” image on the LCD display.
