Cadillac has unveiled a new sports car, the ATS-V.R coupe, which meets the specifications of the FIA GT3 Championship and will be officially in competition from 2015.
The professional motorsport coupe is based on the production ATS-V Coupe, which will debut this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show along with the ATS-V sedan.
The engine of the coupe is a 3.6-liter V6, which differs from the engine of the base model with two larger BorgWarner turbochargers, modifications to the intercoolers and exhaust system, as well as a sports management program. Improvements help the engine develop power up to 600 hp. and torque of 705 Nm (not limited). The transfer of the six-speed sequential gearbox closer to the rear axle of the car (transaxle scheme) allows you to achieve a weight distribution on the front and rear axles in a ratio of 49:51. There is a limited slip differential on the rear axle, and Brembo brakes provide deceleration from speeds up to 274 km/h. The mass of the car is 1315 kg.
Other differences between the coupe and the production model are also due to the FIA GT3 requirements. So, a safety cage is installed inside. The front and rear fenders have been modified to accommodate wider wheels, while a bodykit, front splitter and rear diffuser contribute to improved aerodynamics.
The racing debut of the Cadillac ATS-V.R has already taken place at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. Cadillac expects that the novelty will repeat the sporting success of the CTS-V coupe and will be able to take part in more than 30 different series of competitions around the world, competing with Aston Martin, Ferrari and Porsche.
