BMW to hire 6,000 extra people as demand for electric vehicles rises

BMW

BMW AG will hire 6,000 new workers in Germany in 2022 due to a projected increase in demand for its electric vehicles, Chief Executive Oliver Zipse said in an interview with the Muenchner Merkur newspaper. Thus, in the case of BMW, fears that the automotive industry will face massive layoffs due to the transition to electric vehicles are not justified.

Zipse notes that BMW is on a "very good track" of business transformation.

The demand for electric cars BMW i4 and iX (the latter is expected in 2022 in Russia) is so great that the queue for them lined up for several months in advance, and a similar situation is possible in 2022, when the fuel-free version of the 7-Series sedan enters the market.

The German brand has already sold about a million electrified cars, and is going to double this figure by 2025. In addition, BMW expects the semiconductor shortage to end during 2022, after which there will be a surge in demand for electric vehicles.

Recall that the Bavarian brand is also working on a fully electric version of the 3-Series sedan, it is created on the basis of the regular BMW 3-Series G20 in the Long version. The premiere of the model will take place in March-April 2022.
