BMW has introduced a new i3 electric car, and it does not look like the old i3 at all

BMW

The i3 electric sedan has appeared in the BMW range - it has nothing to do with the compact hatchback produced since 2013. The BMW i3 sedan is a 3-Series converted into an electric car, the novelty was created exclusively for the Chinese market, where it will also be produced.

Production of the three-box, four-door BMW i3 will start in May 2022, with the hatchback only going to overlap for three months as it retires in July. Moreover, the intersection is conditional: the i3 hatch is not sold in China, and the i3 sedan is not available outside of China.

The car is based on a modified version of the CLAR platform, which is used on most modern BMWs, including the usual “troika” with internal combustion engines. So far, the only version of the i3 eDrive35L has been announced, which is unified in terms of filling with the iX3 crossover. Here, too, one electric motor is used, delivering 210 kW (286 hp) and 400 Nm. Rear drive. Acceleration time 0-100 km / h is 6.2 seconds.

The four-door received a traction lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 66.1 kWh, its supplier is the Chinese company CATL. The function of recharging with a fast station with a power of up to 95 kW is supported, with this it is possible to replenish the energy reserve from 10 to 85% in 35 minutes.

The letter L in the novelty index indicates that the long-wheelbase version of the 3-Series, which is produced only in China, served as the basis for the electric car. The electric sedan has an overall length of 4872 mm and a wheelbase of 2936 mm (+115 mm compared to the standard 3-Series sedan).

Due to the installation of the battery, the trunk volume has been reduced by 80 liters compared to the gasoline / diesel 3-Series, to 410 liters.

Like the BMW iX3 crossover, the i3 sedan will be built at the BMW-Brilliance joint venture in Shenyang, China.
