Audi has held the public premiere of the new generation RS5 sports model. The family includes a sedan and a station wagon, which simultaneously replace two previous lines — the previous generation RS4 and RS5. It should be noted here that in 2024, Audi completely revised the naming of its models — and the base A5 has since occupied the niche previously filled by the A4 family. The A4 designation has been discontinued from the lineup.

Let's return to the new RS5. Among the exterior body panels, only the front doors, roof, hood, and trunk lid (or tailgate for the wagon) are shared with the standard A5. All other visible body parts on the RS5/RS5 Avant are completely original. The bespoke chassis with a widened track also required a change in the overall width — the new sports Audi measures 1950 mm in width, which is +90 mm compared to the regular A5.

The new model is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, which includes a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged gasoline V6, an 8-speed automatic transmission, an electric motor integrated between the engine and the transmission, and a battery with a capacity of 22 kWh. The system's total output is 630 hp and 825 Nm. The V6, incidentally, is taken from the previous generation RS4/RS5. The RS5 can travel up to 80 km on electric power alone.

The announced 0-100 km/h acceleration time for the new RS5 is 3.6 seconds. By this measure, the model is comparable to the mid-engine McLaren F1 supercar of the 1990s. At the same time, the RS5 and RS5 Avant are spacious five-seat models — a sedan and a station wagon, respectively.

The RS5's design even includes a special pre-set mode for drifting, called RS5 Torque Rear.

To handle the increased engine power, the brakes have also been strengthened, with 420 mm discs used at the front and 400 mm at the rear. Particularly effective carbon-ceramic mechanisms are offered as an option.
