Audi is working on a flashy electric sports car

The Volkswagen Group continues its expansion into the electric car segment. Although the fate of the TT and R8 models is in doubt, Audi has announced the development of a new car in the coupe body, and it will be equipped with electric motors.

According to the British edition of Autocar, the novelty will occupy a niche between the A5 Sportback and A7 Sportback liftbacks. The car is created on the basis of the PPE modular platform, which Porsche specialists worked on, but for the new Audi it will be reduced in price so as not to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT luxury electric cars built on the J1 platform.

In the basic configuration, PPE provides for the possibility of installing only a rear electric motor, but in top versions, cars can also have a front one. In addition, the platform provides for the installation of capacious batteries that will provide cars with a range of 500 kilometers.

As for the power plant, there is no information about it yet. The Porsche Taycan is equipped with two electric motors with a total power of 751 hp, while the sister crossover Audi e-Tron is content with only 402 hp engines.

In addition to the coupe, Audi may introduce several more models based on this platform, from liftbacks to crossovers.

The public premiere of the novelty as a concept will take place in 2020, but the serial version will be presented only in 2021.

In addition, according to Automotive News, the Volkswagen Group is in talks with other companies about the possibility of selling the platform in order to recoup the funds spent on its development.
