Audi is developing a new flagship electric car in a sedan or liftback body. About this with reference to its sources in the company writes the British edition of Autocar.

The project is being handled by a new working group created by Audi called Artemis, i.ะต. Artemis (in honor of the Greek goddess of fertility, the patroness of all life on Earth). The group faces the challenge of restoring the brand's title of pioneer in innovation and new technologies, as Audi is not going to give the palm in this regard to Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, and Chinese competitors.

In terms of its dimensions, the new model, which still bears the E6 factory index and will be called the A9 E-Tron in serial form, will approach the A7 Sportback four-door coupe, but it will have even more free space in the cabin - like the current flagship A8 sedan.

As for the appearance of the A9 E-Tron, it will be inherited from the Aicon concept car, which premiered at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This 4-seater show car with a capsule design is remembered for the complete absence of controls in the cabin and was equipped with a fifth level autopilot.

There is no exact information about the platform on which the A9 E-Tron will be based. It is known that Audi experts will work closely with colleagues from Porsche to create a new "cart" for the flagship, and they have previously joined forces when they worked on the J1 modular platform. She, recall, became the basis for the Taycan model. Both companies are part of the Volkswagen Group.

The new electric flagship should be a direct competitor to the promising electric vehicles Mercedes-Benz EQS and Jaguar XJ and have the latest electric propulsion, advanced batteries, and an advanced autonomous driving system. The sedan or liftback (recall that the body type has not yet been confirmed) will also support 5G connectivity, and its multimedia system will be able to update over the air.
