Toyota Motor held the world premiere of the new (sixteenth) generation Crown, factory code S235. In the previous four generations, the Crown was produced only in the sedan, in the new incarnation, the model has grown to four body modifications, they were shown simultaneously - a crossover, a sedan, a station wagon, a sports crossover. Important: From now on, Crown is a global product, it will be offered in 40 countries of the world, therefore, right-hand and left-hand drive versions of the model were simultaneously presented.
The basic version of the novelty is a crossover, which is actually a crossover sedan with a drop-down rear.
The overall length, width and height of the car are 4928, 1839 and 1539 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2850 mm.
The design of the car is based on the TNGA-K platform, which is also used on the latest generations of Camry, RAV4, Avalon, Venza. All suspensions are independent: front - MacPherson type, rear - multi-link.
For the model, two motor modifications are announced, both hybrid.
The first, called Hybrid Max, combines a 2.4-liter twin-turbo petrol unit with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, the total system output is 340 hp.
The second hybrid installation is made up of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, a CVT, two electric motors and a nickel-metal hydride battery. Power is not specified.
Both versions - with all-wheel drive, on a hybrid with a 2.5-liter internal combustion engine - an innovative transmission E-Four Advanced, which transfers up to 80% of torque to the rear axle.
The exterior of the crossover-sedan Crown is made in the latest iteration of the corporate identity of Toyota - it attracts the attention of the complex and finely crafted plastic body panels, pronounced volume of the nose, massive sidewalls, narrowed LED headlights and lanterns.
The designers laid down a two-tone body color with an unusual graphical separation, in which the hood, roof and trunk lid are covered with black lacquer, which contrasts with the main body color. However, this is an option, in the standard the car has a plain color.
Inside, there is a tightly arranged front panel, a digital instrument panel (diagonal 12.3 inches), with which the media system screen (also 12.3 inches) is visually butt mounted. The media equipment includes a cloud-based navigation system, over-the-air updates, as well as a “smart assistant” that responds to the words “Hey Toyota.”
In expensive trim levels, the car, among other things, will be equipped with a JBL premium audio system with 11 speakers, a glass panoramic roof, an adaptive suspension, an automatic parking system (without human intervention, it can park the car in both parallel and perpendicular ways).
The landing diameter of the wheels, depending on the configuration, is 19 or 21 inches.
The complex of preventive safety systems includes adaptive cruise control, traffic sign reading, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, lane control, monitoring of "blind" zones, warning of vehicles moving in the transverse direction when reversing. In addition, there is an automatic headlight control.
The new Crown in the body of a crossover sedan in Japan will go on sale in the fall. According to preliminary information, prices for it will lie in the range of 4.35-6.4 million yen, depending on the configuration. In North America, Crown sales start at the end of the year. In the European Union, the car will appear in 2023.
In 2023-2024, a sports crossover, station wagon and sedan will be released.
