The American company Tesla announced two recalls at the same time - a total of 475,000 Model 3 and Model S electric vehicles fell under them. The reasons for the service campaigns are an unreliable front trunk lock and problems with the rear video camera. This was reported by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
On 356,309 2017-2020 Model 3 sedans, the rear camera wiring harness is incorrectly routed - it is damaged when the trunk lid slams shut, as a result, the camera stops working. In the US, 2301 such cases have already been registered.
On 119,009 Model S liftbacks since 2014, the front trunk lock warps during operation and, as a result, does not hold the lid well. It can swing open on the go from the oncoming air flow - and block the forward view of the driver, which is fraught with sad consequences.
Both defects will be repaired by the manufacturer at his own expense. Reviews cover USA only. The list of VIN numbers of vehicles covered by the campaign is published on the NHTSA website.
NHTSA is also in discussions with Tesla about issues with side-view cameras on some electric vehicles. According to CNBC, the manufacturer is already changing the sensors built into the front fenders, but so far in private, without announcing a recall.
