Tesla leads in the anti-rating of accidents with autopilot on

Tesla

About 70% of accidents involving cars with an activated semi-autopilot / autopilot system occur in Tesla electric vehicles. This conclusion was reached in the United States, where they analyzed the statistics of accidents of this type in the period from July 2021 to May 2022. Data from automakers was collected by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is the first such report, before that information was purposefully accumulated on accidents with an autopilot.

According to the Washington Post newspaper, during the specified period, it was possible to consolidate information about 392 accidents on the roads of the United States involving cars with an activated autopilot, of which Tesla accounted for 273 cases. In total, six people died in such accidents, five were seriously injured.

In second place in the anti-rating, oddly enough, Honda - the cars of this manufacturer crashed 90 times with the autonomous driving system turned on.

On the third — Subaru: 10 cases.

Separately, statistics are given on accidents of prototypes (non-serial cars) with autopilots turned on - these are 130 cases, in one of them a person was seriously injured.

Tesla electric vehicles are equipped with the Tesla Autopilot proprietary advanced driver assistance system, with which the car can automatically maintain speed and a safe distance to the cars in front, stay within its lane and change it to the highway. From the end of 2021, a beta version of the Full-Self Driving system (full autopilot) is also available - it allows an electric car to maneuver along city streets without human intervention, stop at stop signs and traffic lights, and also make turns.
