Toyota Motor and Suzuki Motor are jointly developing an affordable electric crossover. The car is comparable in size to the Hyundai Creta and will receive a range of 400-500 km on a single battery charge, and India will become a key sales market, where it will be produced. The basic front-wheel drive modification will receive one electric motor with a capacity of 138 hp. and a traction battery with a capacity of 48 kWh. All-wheel drive version with two electric motors with a total output of 170 hp. will be awarded a battery of 59 kWh. In the latter case, the power reserve on a single charge will be up to 500 km.
Electric vehicles are planned to be produced under the Toyota and Suzuki brands with minor changes. The model from Maruti Suzuki (this is the name of the Indian branch of Suzuki) passes under the internal index YY8.
The start of production of the Suzuki YY8 and its analogue under the Toyota brand is scheduled for 2025. Suzuki's model is expected to have a starting price tag of around INR 1.3 million.
