Suzuki revived the Grand Vitara

Suzuki

Suzuki Motor has revived the Grand Vitara name - under it they will produce a new compact crossover, created in collaboration with Toyota Motor.

The world premiere of the new Suzuki Grand Vitara took place in India, the market of this particular South Asian country will receive the model first.

The revived Grand Vitara was created through a deep comprehensive modernization of the compact crossover Vitara of the LY generation (produced since 2015). With this well-known model in Russia, the novelty unifies the Suzuki Global C platform and elements of the load-bearing body frame, while all the external panels of the Grand Vitara are different, forming a more modern exterior. The fenders, doors, hood and roof of the Suzuki are shared with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder platform crossover introduced in early July, but the headlights and lights, as well as the bumper groups for each model, are original.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara combines smooth shapes with sharp edges. The voluminous hood rhyming with the belt line, a large radiator grille, as well as a two-tier design of headlights (dipped beam and high beam units are in the bumper, above them are dimensions and direction indicators) attract attention.

The overall length, width and height of the revived Grand Vitara are 4345, 1795 and 1645 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2600 mm. In terms of the distance between the axles of the wheels, the car is 100 mm longer than the Vitara LY, and 170 mm in total length.

The novelty will be offered in two motor versions: "mild hybrid" and "parallel hybrid".

In the first case, the 1.5-liter Suzuki K15C gasoline engine is assisted by a 48-volt starter-alternator, system power is 103 hp, torque is 137 Nm. The internal combustion engine is combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-band "automatic" with a torque converter.

The parallel hybrid has an outstanding 92 hp. and 122 Nm of a 1.5-liter Toyota M15A-FXE gasoline unit, which is combined with a 79-horsepower electric motor, the total system output is 114 hp. The setup includes an eCVT variator and a lithium-ion battery. On pure electric traction, the car is capable of covering a distance of up to 25 km.

The first of the listed modifications can have front or all-wheel drive (at the choice of the buyer), the second assumes only the front.

The production of new items will be organized at the Maruti Suzuki plant, the Indian branch of Suzuki Motor. From there it will be supplied to other poor developing countries.

Recall that the model with the name Grand Vitara first appeared in the Suzuki range in 1998 - it was a compact frame SUV of the FT / GT generation, produced until 2005. Then this name passed to the model that replaced it JT with a frameless design, it was produced until 2019.
