Renault showed an electric show car with a design inspired by the legendary Renault 5 Turbo

Renault continues to build on the legacy of its iconic models of the past, this time with the introduction of the R5 Turbo 3E electric sports car, an artistic reimagining of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and 5 Turbo 2 sports car (which were produced in small series from 1980-1986).

The R5 Turbo 3E has a frame-and-panel body structure - the supporting structure is welded from round steel pipes, and the outer panels are molded from composites, in shape and proportions they reproduce the panels of historical ancestors, but not literally. The aerodynamic body kit is complex and artsy, with LED headlights and taillights, as well as a huge rear wing, attracting attention.

The "real" 5 Turbo and 5 Turbo 2 were mid-engined and rear-wheel drive, the new prototype has a similar layout - two electric motors are installed on the rear axle, respectively, the rear wheels are leading. The engines are powered by a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted under the floor, with a total output of 280 kW (375 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. From standstill to 100 km / h, the car accelerates in 3.5 seconds, and its maximum speed reaches 200 km / h.

The landing diameter of the front wheels is 19 inches, the rear wheels are 20 inches. The curb weight of the R5 Turbo 3E is 1,500 kg, of which 520 kg are batteries.

The design of the car provides for a drift mode - in order to capture spectacular races on video, ten mounts for portable video cameras are made in different parts of the body.

The dimensions of the machine are as follows: overall length - 4006 mm, width - 2020 mm, height - 1320 mm, wheelbase - 2540 mm.

The "live" presentation of the R5 Turbo 3E will take place in October at the international motor show in Paris. There are no plans to launch an electric car into production.

Recall that in 2021, the French-American company Légende Automobiles introduced the restomod of the classic French minicar Renault 5 under its own name Turbo3.
