Jeep to introduce new straight-six in April

Jeep

Jeep, an American brand that is part of Stellantis, will introduce a brand new 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder gasoline engine in April. This was reported by the MoparInsiders resource (Mopar is a division of the Stellantis concern that produces tuning and accessories, mainly for Jeep and Dodge), citing information from insiders.

While the new internal combustion engine is under the internal designation GME-T6 (according to rumors, the marketing name is Tornado), it will be shown at the New York International Auto Show. The motor will enter the Stellantis Global Medium Engine series (so far it only has a 2.0-liter petrol “turbo-four”) and will be the company’s first straight-six since the cessation of production of the 4.0-liter classic AMC engine in 2006.

According to MoparInsiders, the engine is planned to be produced in three forcing options, while the most powerful one will debut in April. All versions have a working volume of 3.0 liters, the return is still unknown.

In 2023, the GME-T6 will begin to be used as part of a plug-in hybrid powertrain (that is, such machines will support charging from an outlet / station). The hybrid is expected to receive a ZF 8P75PH 8-speed automatic transmission with an integrated 136 hp motor-generator. (100 kW). An electric drive mode is provided.

The GME-T6 will debut on the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. Then it will be installed on other models of the American division of the Stellantis concern, including the Dodge Charger sedan, Dodge Challenger coupe and Ram pickups.

More information will be available during New York Auto Show press days (April 13 and 14).
