Isuzu Motors and UD Trucks held the world premiere of the new generation Giga and Quon heavy-duty tractors - the vehicles are mutually unified to the maximum and are the product of cooperation between the two companies.
Recall that Isuzu is one of the largest Asian manufacturers of trucks, buses and diesel engines. UD Trucks is a former Nissan Diesel, in 2007-2021 the company was owned by the Swedish manufacturer of trucks and construction equipment Volvo Group (not to be confused with the passenger car Volvo Cars). In 2021, UD was purchased from Volvo by Isuzu.
In the new incarnation of Giga and Quon, engineers have relied on increasing the efficiency of machines and reducing their cost. The first was achieved by reducing the volume of the motor while increasing its output, the second - by the widespread use of common parts, that is, by increasing the scale effect.
The overall length, width and height of the Giga/Quon are 5620, 2490 and 3362 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 3200 mm. Both cars have 4x2 chassis.
The Giga is powered by a 10.8 liter inline 6-cylinder turbodiesel with 460 hp. and a torque of 2245 Nm. It is mated to UD Trucks' Escot-VI automatic transmission.
Quon is a more heavy-duty model with a reinforced design, it is equipped with a 12.7-liter 6-cylinder turbodiesel with an output of 530 hp. and 2598 Nm. The transmission uses Escot-VII gearbox.
In the domestic market of Japan, new items will go on sale in April.
