Isuzu to show long-range tractor of the future in Tokyo

At the Tokyo Motor Show, which opens at the end of October, not only passenger cars, but also novelties in the commercial vehicle segment will be presented. For example, Isuzu intends to show the FL IR concept tractor.

The new development has little in common with the usual trucks. At first glance, you won’t even understand where the windshield is located: from above from the huge Isuzu inscription or from below. Actually the glass is mounted on top and the bottom is a huge plastic fairing.

The image is complemented by tiny LED headlights, a huge air intake and a bumper with a low “lip”. It is hardly appropriate to talk about practicality here, but the exterior makes a strong impression.

The authors of the Isuzu FL IR were inspired by the inhabitants of the seas, who use ultrasound for navigation. According to them, the appearance is partly made in biodesign (supposedly in some elements of the body you can find similarities with sharks), while in other details there is a hint of a huge robot.

FL IR is trained to move autonomously as part of a caravan. This means that a chain of several trucks will need only one driver: the rest of the vehicles will be able to follow the leader in unmanned mode. Some manufacturers have been experimenting with this technology for years.

Will present Isuzu and serial trucks. The heavy model Giga will be shown in a version with adaptive cruise control and a security system that can detect pedestrians and cyclists.

The Elf light truck will be shown in an electric version with the prefix EV in the title. This model is intended for operation within the city, therefore it is made as short as possible.

But the Erga Duo bus, on the contrary, was stretched to the maximum. This "accordion" is driven by a hybrid power plant. An emergency braking button is provided in the cabin: passengers can press it if they notice that the driver has become ill.
