Budget crossover Honda failed in crash tests

Non-profit organization Latin NCAP conducted crash tests of two popular cars in the South American market - these are low-cost subcompact crossovers Honda WR-V and Volkswagen Nivus. Both models are produced in Brazil.

The Latin NCAP protocol implies three types of passive safety tests:

frontal impact at 64 km / h with an overlap of 40%;
side impact by a cart imitating another passenger car (speed - 50 km/h, width of the deformable module - 1500 mm);
side impact on a pole at a speed of 29 km / h.
The WR-V was a major failure in testing. For the protection of adult passengers, the car earned only 41.03%, for the safety of child passengers - 40.66%, safety for pedestrians was estimated at 58.82%. Tests have shown that seat belts do not comply with UN and Latin NCAP regulations and do not hold passengers securely. The side crash test revealed that the crossover lacks side airbags (“in the base” it has only two frontal airbags). The overall rating is one star out of five possible.

In defiance of Honda, the Volkswagen Nivus performed brilliantly in Latin NCAP tests - five stars out of five possible. Ensuring the safety of adults in this car was rated at 92.47%, child passengers - 91.57%, only injury safety for pedestrians was rated relatively low - 48.74%. In the basic configuration, Nivus has six airbags.
