In California, a presentation of a new generation of heavy pickup GMC Sierra HD took place. The car retained the 2500HD and 3500HD versions, but received an updated appearance and additional options.

The 3500HD heavy version has a towable weight of 13,600 kg, 3,000 more than before. At the same time, the GMC Sierra HD has not caught up with the new Ram 3500, which can handle a trailer weighing up to 15,900 kg. The carrying capacity of the car itself has not yet been specified. The new GMC is the closest relative of the Chevrolet Silverado HD - the cars have a unified platform, powertrains, and cab.

Large pickups with bulky trailers sometimes have problems with visibility, and this aspect was given a lot of attention during the development of the GMC Sierra HD. The new ProGrade Trailering system offers up to 15 external camera modes. The all-round view will seem like the last century in comparison with the virtual "transparent trailer": in this case, the picture from the cameras installed on the pickup and trailer is combined, which creates the effect of a transparent trailer.

For the first time in the GMC segment, Sierra HD offers a 15-inch head-up display that can display not only the speedometer and navigation system, but also important information about the trailer.

Compared with the previous version of the GMC Sierra HD, engineers managed to reduce the loading height by 25 mm. Among other improvements in terms of practicality, the manufacturer notes the presence of additional side steps in the area of the rear wheel arches.

The 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel engine retained its output (451 hp and 1234 Nm), but the engineers installed a more efficient cooling system and modified the intake. The main hardware difference of the new generation GMC Sierra HD was the appearance of a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. More "finely chopped" speeds allow the engine to operate at optimal speed, taking into account different loads and changing road topography.

Also, buyers of a large pickup truck will be able to choose a gasoline V8, but the company has not yet spoken about it.

GMC Sierra HD will be sold in three versions: base SLT, off-road AT4 and deluxe Denali. The AT4 features beefed up suspension, a locking rear differential, and tires with more aggressive tread. Distinctive features of Denali are the abundance of chrome, leather and natural wood.

Sales of the new generation of large pickup trucks will begin in the coming months. Prices have not yet been announced.
