General Motors has unveiled a new generation of the 2015 GMC Canyon mid-size pickup truck at the Detroit Auto Show. The novelty is a related model for the Chevrolet Colorado.
The car is available with two petrol powertrain options: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (193 hp, 253 Nm in the range of 2000-6200 rpm) and a 3.6-liter V6 (302 hp, 366 Nm) . In 2016, the Duramax 2.8L turbodiesel will also appear on the pickup truck. The main gearbox is a 6-speed "automatic", but on some models a "mechanics" with the same number of steps is also available.
In addition, a pickup truck can have three cab options, as well as two types of drive (2WD or 4WD). All four wheels are controlled by the electronically controlled AutoTrac transmission, which allows you to sel ect one of four driving modes: 2WD, Auto, 4WD HI, 4WD Lo. An electronic locking rear differential is available as an option. Like some other GM models, the GMC Canyon can be equipped with a StabiliTrak stabilization system with rollover alert, hill start and downhill assist, and trailer sway control. By the way, the characteristics of the GMC Canyon allow you to tow a trailer weighing 3 tons (with the appropriate preparation of the towing vehicle), and transport 650 kg of cargo in the cargo compartment. Active aerodynamic louvres in the radiator grille work to reduce fuel consumption.
It is expected that buyers of the model will be offered a wide range of equipment. Among them we note Wi-Fi and the ability to connect a mobile phone, navigation, IntelliLink system with an 8-inch color display, recognition of gestures and voice commands, the ability to download applications fr om the GMC AppShop, as well as a RemoteLink smart key fob that allows remote control of door locks, turn on lights and a sound signal, and start the engine through a special application on your smartphone. In addition, the pickup truck can be equipped with a rear-view camera (standard equipment), an obstacle warning system for reverse maneuvering and an assistant to prevent lane departure.
Worth noting is the special “off-road” All-Terrain package, which includes, among other things, 17-inch aluminum wheels on off-road tires and a modified off-road suspension.
It is expected that the new GMC Canyon will go on sale in the US market immediately after the start of its production this fall. The 2015 Canyon will complement GMC's lineup of new pickup trucks, which previously included the Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD models.
