General Motors is gaining momentum in the electric vehicle segment with the introduction of a new model of this type, the full-size GMC Sierra EV pickup truck.
The Sierra EV is a facelifted and rebadged version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which was first revealed in April 2022. The GMC features original front styling, a different rear end, interior features, and engines.
Both models are based on a frameless chassis with an Ultium traction battery integrated into the load-bearing body frame. The design provides for the use of only a purely electric power plant.
GMC, like Chevrolet, will only be produced with a four-door, two-row, five-seat cab.
There is a technical difference between the twins - the Sierra EV is more powerful: it has two electric motors that produce a total of 754 hp, which is 90 hp. more than the Silverado. The torque, however, is the same - 1064 Nm.
The power reserve on one battery charge is 640 km. The battery supports recharging from a network with a power of 350 kW. In addition, there is a function of powering external consumers from car batteries - even a country house can be provided with current.
The load capacity of the pickup truck is 2300 kg, the maximum weight of the towed trailer is almost 21 tons!
The Sierra EV is currently only available in the top version of Denali, in which the electric truck is equipped with an 11.8-inch digital instrument panel, a 16.8-inch multimedia screen, a projection display with color graphics, a panoramic roof, an all-round camera system, a Super Cruise semi-autopilot, Bose audio system, air suspension with clearance control, fully controlled chassis with "crab mode" (maximum turn of all wheels), contactless engine start (allows you to start the car without pressing the "Start" button - only with a key fob in your pocket). In addition, the Denali uses premium interior materials, including natural wood and aluminum.
Sales of the GMC Sierra EV will start in 2024 with the Denali package. The price in the US will be $107,000, in 2025 less expensive modifications will be released, including those with a price of about $50,000.
