Electric Hummer can crawl sideways like a crab

GMC

General Motors is going to revive Hummer as a sub-brand of GMC, which will produce electric pickups and SUVs. The first-born of the new series will be presented on October 20, but for now the company continues to periodically publish new intriguing details. In particular, the car will receive the so-called Crab Mode. His work was shown on video for the first time.

Unlike crabs, Hummer will not be able to move completely sideways, but diagonally. To do this, he turns all four wheels in one direction and starts moving.

The ability to steer all four wheels is not unique in itself. This feature was available on some passenger cars a couple of decades ago. But in recent years, interest in it from manufacturers has increased significantly. More and more cars have learned to move the rear wheels. This helps, for example, to reduce the turning radius or improve stability when cornering at high speeds. But so far, no model has received a crab mode.

What will Crab Mode give in real life? GMC has yet to answer this question. Among the most obvious options is a new way to parallel park or look for extra grip off-road (like mud, snow, etc.).

Judging by the first information, the crab mode will be offered as an option for the GMC Hummer.

According to previously announced data, Hummer will receive several electric motors with a total power of 1014 hp. Despite the large dimensions and weight, the car will be able to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just three seconds.
