The China Automotive Research Institute has conducted aerodynamic testing of GAC Motor's new AION Hyper GT electric sedan. According to their results, it turned out that the drag coefficient Cx for this model is only 0.197, which makes it the lowest among all road cars produced today.
For comparison: the American Tesla Model S, which is a weight and size analogue of the AION Hyper GT, has Cx of 0.235, that is, 20% worse.
Here it should be noted that, according to passport data, the AION Hyper GT has a drag coefficient of 0.19. But GAC emphasized that the indicated value is relevant for modifications with a rear-view camera system - without side mirrors. For independent testing, the Automotive Research Institute took a standard car with side mirrors.
Energy efficiency is critical for electric vehicles, as it allows for longer range without increasing the size and capacity of the batteries, which are heavy. Improving streamlining is one way to increase energy efficiency.
AION Hyper GT was introduced at the very end of 2022, it is built on a purely electric AEP 3.0 platform, which, in principle, does not involve the use of internal combustion engines. Among the features of the model are the mechanism for opening the front doors of the "butterfly wing" type (up and sideways) and an advanced autopilot system (works on data from 39 sensors and cameras). The Hyper GT is available in a rear-wheel drive, single-engine version with 250 kW (340 hp) and 434 Nm of torque. Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h takes only 4.9 seconds.
In the domestic Chinese market, sales of new items will start in April.
