Ford Motor at the International Auto Show in Detroit, which opened on September 14, held the world premiere of the Mustang coupe of the new, seventh generation.
A few things remained unchanged for the legendary model:
classic proportions of the body with a long hood and a cabin shifted back,
rear drive wheels
the presence in the range of atmospheric gasoline V8 and a manual gearbox.
The rest of the Mustang is brand new.
The exterior of the coupe has become tougher in character. Attention is drawn to the sharp edge-stamping on the sidewalls, which is continued in the front by the upper edge of the headlights and radiator grilles. Retained muscular "thighs" in the back. The three vertical taillight graphic elements now rhyme with three distinct light elements in the headlights.
The seventh Mustang was simultaneously presented in two bodies - a coupe and a convertible.
The basic configuration of the model implies a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder petrol turbo engine EcoBoost. The Americans call it completely new, but they do not disclose the characteristics. The upgrade is a step up and features an upgraded version of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 from the Coyote family. In the next incarnation, this gigantic unit has a double airbox and double throttle valves. Engine specifications have also not been published.
EcoBoost in the new generation of the coupe is combined only with a 10-band automatic transmission, "mechanics" in conjunction with this engine is not available. Why? In the previous generation Mustang, 90% of buyers of the 2.3-liter engine option chose automatic transmission.
The 5.0-liter engine is combined with a 6-speed "mechanics".
The drive for all options is only rear.
The instrument panel in the cabin is now fully digital, it is combined in one rectangular block with a media system. The diagonal of the instrument cluster screen is 12.4 inches, the media system display is 13.2 inches. Interestingly, the media is slightly turned towards the driver (for ease of use).
The design has many features for real car enthusiasts. For example, from the key fob you can not only start the engine, but also remotely increase its speed. Also, the car is equipped with a system called "electronic drift brake" - supposedly with its help even a beginner will be able to take turns in a controlled slip at the professional level. The feature is claimed to have been developed with input from professional drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr.
Consumers will be offered ample opportunities to customize the style of the car. The catalog includes 12 wheel design solutions, many color options for Brembo brake calipers, there is a special Bronze Design Series that adds puffy golden accents to the exterior.
Sales of the new Ford Mustang will start in the summer of 2023.
Recall that the coupe of the outgoing sample has been produced since 2014.
