Ford said the F-150 Lightning pickup truck can provide electricity to the average household for three days

Ford

The Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck can provide electricity to an average country house for three days when using electrical appliances in normal mode, that is, without turning on maximum savings. If we talk about a modest apartment with one tenant, then the charge can be enough for almost a month. The capabilities of the Intelligent Backup Power feature were discussed at Ford Motor.

How can a machine provide power to a private house? The F-150 Lightning uses high-capacity traction batteries: 98 or 131 kWh, depending on the version. If we consider that the average American household consumes about 30 kWh per day, then a full charge will last for 3-4 days (or up to 10 days if you use energy rationally).

Powering buildings from a Ford pickup requires a few additional devices. First, you need the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which comes with expensive versions of the F-150 Lightning or is sold separately. Second, the home owner will have to purchase and install the Home Integration System from Sunrun. The system includes an inverter and a battery. Usually the Home Integration System is used for solar panels (which is what Sunrun specializes in), but in the case of the F-150 Lightning, you can do without it.

When everything is installed and configured, in the event of a sudden power outage, the owner does not even need to do anything: if the F-150 Lightning is connected to the charging station, it will detect the loss of mains voltage and automatically start powering the house. The maximum output power is 9.6 kW.

By the way, the electric pickup is also capable of recharging other Ford electric vehicles. All you need is a Ford Mobile Power Cord.

Recall that the F-150 Lightning was presented in May 2021, its shipments to the first customers are scheduled for the spring of 2022. Two versions of the F-150 Lightning will be available: with a standard battery (432 hp, cruising range - 370 km) and increased (571 hp and 482 km). The torque in both cases is 1051 Nm. Battery capacity - 98 or 131 kWh. The top model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 4.4 seconds.

In December, the company announced that it had collected 200,000 orders for the supply of F-150 Lightning pickups. The line has already stretched for more than a year, in connection with which Ford doubled its production plans: from 80 to 150 thousand in 2023.

The base price is $39,974. A pickup truck with a larger battery costs a minimum of $72,474.
