Ferrari S.p.A. revealed some details about the promising model Purosangue, which will be the first crossover in the history of the Italian brand.
The company officially announced that the off-road model will be equipped with a V12 gasoline engine.
“We looked at several options, and eventually came to the obvious conclusion that the V12 for power and driving pleasure is the right solution for the market,” Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna told reporters.
It is specified that we are talking about an engine created from scratch - Ferrari showed a 14-second promotional video with this unit on its pages on social networks.
Until now, it has been kept secret what powertrain the Purosangue will be equipped with. There were rumors about a "plug-in hybrid" system with a V6 in the composition. Some sources claimed that the Ferrari crossover will receive a V8. However, it is possible that a range of engine modifications will be offered for the model, and the V12 will be located at the top of the hierarchy.
Reuters notes that the decision to use the V12 on the Purosangue is unexpected as Ferrari has relied on less polluting V8 and V6 hybrid systems in recent years. At the end of 2021, modifications with V12 accounted for 17% of total sales in the sales structure of the brand's supercars.
Probably, in the context of Purosangue for Ferrari, it is fundamental to release an all-terrain vehicle “cooler” than that of its main competitor, Lamborghini. Recall that the Lamborghini Urus is offered with a bi-turbo V8.
Despite geopolitical turmoil, Ferrari S.p.A. loaded with orders until 2023. The first quarter of 2022 turned out to be very successful for the company - adjusted profit increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2021, to 423 million euros.
The presentation of the Ferrari Purosangue will take place in the summer of 2022.
