Ferrari introduced supercars with a cutoff of 9500 rpm

Ferrari

Ferrari has unveiled the successors to the 812 Superfast and 812 GTS, the 812 Competizione coupe and 812 Competizione A targa (from the Italian Aperta, “open”). They received the most powerful and highest-revving internal combustion engine ever installed on the company's road cars.

The former 812 Superfast and 812 GTS cannot be called old: the coupe came out in 2017, the targa in 2019. The Italians could get away with a small update, but decided on more extensive changes. The power structure of the body is preserved, but most of the external panels are new. All fenders and bumpers have changed, not to mention small things like splitters, diffusers and side skirts.

All elements are subject to two tasks: to increase streamlining and improve cooling efficiency. For this, a large transverse strip appeared on the hood (it hides the air ducts that remove heat from the heated V12), and rectangular exhaust pipes, atypical for Ferrari, are installed at the back (they are spaced as far as possible from each other to fit the wide diffuser).

A more generous use of carbon has reduced the weight of the coupe by 38 kg (1487 kg) relative to the 812 Superfast. Even the wheels are made of carbon fiber: they are 3.7 kg lighter than usual ones.

Engineers thoroughly shook up the 6.5-liter V12. The pistons have been reshaped, the connecting rods are made of titanium (40% lighter than steel), a different crankshaft has been used and the camshafts are carbon-coated to help reduce friction. The maximum rpm has been increased from 8900 to 9500 per minute.

All these tricks helped to increase the return from 800 to 830 hp. True, the maximum torque at the same time decreased from 718 to 692 Nm. Paired with the V12 is a seven-speed "robot" that has learned to switch 5% faster. Ultimately, the acceleration time to 100 km / h was reduced from 2.9 to 2.85 seconds. On the other hand, the sprint to 200 km / h began to take longer - 7.9 vs. 7.5 seconds. "Maximum speed" - 340 km / h.

“Behind the wheel of the 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A, the driver becomes one with the car, whether on the road or on the track,” says Ferrari.

So far, the Italians have not named either the prices of 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A, or the volume of production. Obviously, circulation will be limited.
