Ferrari has lost the rights to the name of one of its iconic models

Ferrari

Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari has lost the legal rights to the Testarossa trademark. True, so far only in Germany. The company lost a legal battle against the German toy manufacturer Autec AG.

The Düsseldorf court ruled that Ferrari had not used the Testarossa name in any way for the past five years, so the name loses its protection and can move to another company.

The argument of the lawyers of the Italian company during the litigation was as follows: Ferrari has the exclusive right to the name Testarossa for the reason that it continues to service and restore the model with that name, produced from 1984 to 1996. But the court did not consider this argument convincing and ruled in favor of Autec AG.

According to Spiegel, Autec AG can now legally use the Testarossa name for products ranging from bicycles to electric shavers. Ferrari may appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal, but it is not yet known whether it will take advantage of this opportunity.

Recall that the Ferrari Testarossa model was equipped with a 4.9-liter 12-cylinder petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The car had a mid-engine layout and rear drive wheels.

The name Testarossa was given in honor of the legendary 1957 Ferrari racing car, but its name was written in two words - Testa Rossa, which means "red head" in Italian.
