The British company RML Group (it can be remembered by the extreme Nissan Juke-R with a GT-R engine) showed a pre-production version of the new Short Wheelbase model, the retro exterior of which is based on the legendary Ferrari 250 GT SWB of 1952-1964.
The authors of Short Wheelbase did not seek to reproduce the original sports car. On the contrary, the novelty is made on a relatively modern technological base. It is based on a platform from another Ferrari - the front-engined 550 Maranello coupe produced in 1996-2002. All exterior panels of the RML Short Wheelbase are molded from lightweight and durable carbon fiber. The donor chassis is completely restored and shortened by 28 cm before installing a new body.
The 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 is also taken from the 550 Maranello. The 479-horsepower motor is aggregated with a 6-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive. The coupe should accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of over 298 km/h. Dvuhdverka in running order weighs 1470 kg. Overall length of the machine - 4264 mm, width - 1954 mm.
The new coupe was conceived as a Grand Tourismo car, so the emphasis is not only on dynamic capabilities, but also on comfort. Custom-made shock absorbers are used, and inside there are climate control, power seats and a media system with navigation and wireless connection to smartphones.
RML Group is going to release only 30 Short Wheelbases. Deliveries will begin later in 2022. The expected starting price is £1.35m.
