Chery abandoned plans to conquer North America (although she had them for seven years)

Chinese Chery will not enter the US and Canadian markets, although the company has been trying to achieve this for the past seven years. The reason for the abandonment of the ambitious plan is the sudden bankruptcy of Chery's distributor and partner in North America, California-based HAAH Automotive.

HAAH says they no longer see any prospects for the project. In North America, under the newly formed Vantas and T-GO brands, it was planned to offer Chery Exeed crossovers and the Tiggo line.

Surprisingly, in April, HAAH drew up a new plan, according to which the first shipment of Chery was to be imported into the United States at the end of 2022. That is, only three months ago, the company still hoped for a favorable scenario.

In 2014, investors enthusiastically welcomed the idea of supplying Chery crossovers to the US and Canada and believed in it. However, the trade war between the US and China in 2018-2020, as well as the coronavirus pandemic, derailed the plan.

Note that in North America, cars of none of the Chinese national brands are still officially sold. GAC Motor also claimed the title of the first Chinese car in the States, but it gave up on this idea even during the trade war.
