"Chinese Hummer H1" will be sold to everyone

Dongfeng

Concern DongFeng Motor plans to bring to the civilian market SUVs of the Mengshi / Warrior family - this is a Chinese copy of the legendary American all-terrain vehicle Humvee / Hummer H1 from AM General.

DongFeng has been producing Mengshi since 2002, and initially they were real Humvees - the Chinese bought car kits from the Americans, assembled them and only installed their badges. However, in the process of cooperation with AM General, DongFeng carried out reverse engineering of the Hummer and created its own model, which, in terms of basic design solutions, layout and proportions, completely repeats the “American”, but has original exterior body panels that form its own exterior. Mengshi has been produced in this form since 2007. Two engines are offered for the model, both are turbodiesels. This is a 6.5L GM V8 or a 4.0L 4-cylinder Cummins EQB150-20. Gearbox - 4-band "automatic" or 5-speed "mechanics".

Until now, Mengshi has been supplied only to the Chinese army or sold for export to the military of other countries.

DongFeng Mengshi will be offered to non-military consumers from March 2021, and the M50 modification will first enter the market - this is a “bare chassis” with a single-row cab. Such a machine is designed for the installation of a cargo or special superstructure.

The model will be offered to civilian customers only with a Cummins turbodiesel, it develops 200 hp. power and 600 Nm of torque.

Like the original Hummer, the Mengshi is based on a riveted steel frame with box section spars. The body has a frame made of rectangular tubes and external elements made of aluminum and composites. All suspensions of the car are independent, the drive is permanent all-wheel drive.

At what price they plan to sell the civilian DongFeng is still unknown.
