"Chinese Hammer" can now be bought by anyone

Dongfeng

On July 8, DongFeng Motor began production of a civilian version of the Mengshi / Warrior family of SUVs - this is a Chinese copy of the legendary American all-terrain vehicle Humvee / Hummer H1 from AM General.

For non-military consumers, the car will at first be available only in the form of a “bare chassis” for a superstructure or a flatbed truck with a single-row cab, later the range will be replenished with a station wagon. The civilian version, designated Mangshi/Warrior M50, is unarmored and costs 668,800 yuan. The package, among other things, includes interior trim with plastic panels, a media system, air conditioning, leather-wrapped seats, a steering wheel and a gearshift lever.

DongFeng has been producing Mengshi since 2002, and initially they were real Humvees - the Chinese bought car kits from the Americans, assembled them and only installed their badges. However, in the process of cooperation with AM General, DongFeng carried out reverse engineering of the Hummer and created its own model, which, in terms of basic design solutions, layout and proportions, completely repeats the “American”, but has original exterior body panels that form its own exterior. Mengshi has been produced in this form since 2007. Two engines are offered for the model, both are turbodiesels. This is a 6.5L GM V8 or a 4.0L 4-cylinder Cummins EQB150-20. Gearbox - 4-band "automatic" or 5-speed "mechanics".

Until now, Mengshi has been supplied only to the Chinese army or sold for export to the military of other countries.

The model will be offered to civilian customers only with a Cummins turbodiesel, it develops 200 hp. power and 600 Nm of torque.

Like the original Hummer, the Mengshi is based on a riveted steel frame with box section spars. The body has a frame made of rectangular tubes and external elements made of aluminum and composites. All suspensions of the car are independent, the drive is permanent all-wheel drive.
