At the CES-2017 consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, the Chrysler Portal concept car was presented, which clearly demonstrates how FIAT-Chrysler sees a family car in the near future.
The main idea of Portal is that it's not just a car, it's a "third space" between work and home. Therefore, the designers abstracted from the traditional principles of the automotive industry and endowed Portal with the most spacious and bright interior. The volume of useful space inside the car exceeds 5 m3, to maximize the daylight entering the cabin, glass panels are built into the doors and roof. Portal is able to comfortably accommodate 6 adults, the seats are arranged in three rows.
Concept minivan is equipped with an electric motor with front-wheel drive. It is powered by lithium-ion batteries located under the floor of the body. The power reserve on one charge is 400 km.
The machine can be controlled in the traditional way, or you can trust the autopilot system. In this case, the steering wheel folds under the front panel. Another interesting feature of the Chrysler Portal is the driver's face recognition feature. It is used to automatically turn on the individual settings of a particular driver - useful if several people in the family use the same car.
