Chrysler 200 sedan has changed generation and got 9 automatic transmission

Chrysler

Detroit hosted the world premiere of the second generation of the Chrysler 200 midsize sedan.

Unlike the previous generation, produced since 2010, the new generation of the model was created on the Compact U.S.-wide (CUS-wide) platform, borrowed from the European Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback after appropriate adaptation to American conditions. Engineers used a McPherson design for the front suspension, and a multi-link design for the rear. The new Chrysler 200 became the third model for the American market, developed on the Italian platform (after the Dodge Dart compact sedan and Jeep Cherokee mid-size crossover).

The new platform made it possible to offer different types of drive for the sedan. The base for the Chrysler 200 is front-wheel drive, and an innovative all-wheel drive is available as an option, which allows you to transfer up to 60% of torque to the rear wheels, or completely turn off rear-wheel drive. Thanks to the latter fact, parasitic losses are reduced by almost 80% compared to similar part-time systems.

Finally, the car was the first in its class to receive a 9-speed automatic transmission with a selector “washer” and paddle shifters. The new automatic transmission is already available as standard and is 13.6 kg lighter than the previous 6-speed gearbox, but at the same time it is more efficient. In particular, it was thanks to 9 gears in the transmission that it was possible to reduce gasoline consumption for each of the engines available for ordering on the new Chrysler 200. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine of the Tigershark family (184 hp, 234 Nm) began to spend 13% less fuel, and the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar (295 hp, 355 Nm) - by 7%.
