General Motors decided to compete for buyers' wallets in the mass electric pickup market - at the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 now taking place in Las Vegas, the concern introduced the Silverado EV family.
Despite the name, the car has nothing in common with the petrol and diesel Silverados, since it was created from scratch on the Ultium modular platform, which in principle does not involve the use of internal combustion engines. Recall that she made her debut on the revived Hummer, which went into series in 2021.
The Silverado EV is a full-size, but it has a rather atypical profile for American pickups - a short nose and a cabin shifted forward (by the way, it is a two-row, four-door). The absence of a massive internal combustion engine untied the hands of designers and designers, so they decided to endow the car with a more efficient body layout. By the way, the front of the Silverado EV has a luggage compartment.
The electric truck will be offered in two configurations - WT (Work Truck, “work truck”) and RST (sport option), in both cases the novelty has two electric motors (one per axle) and permanent all-wheel drive. RST has 30% more power and has a number of design and equipment features.
Silverado EV WT is equipped with engines with a total output of 380 kW (517 hp) and a torque of 834 Nm.
In the Silverado EV RST variant, the engines develop 495 kW (673 hp) and 1063 Nm. Other differences in this version are the presence of the Super Cruise autopilot and adaptive air suspension, as well as the steerable rear wheels (improve maneuverability) and the Multi-Flex Midgate, that is, the folding rear wall of the cab, which allows you to transport long loads. In normal condition, the internal length of the Silverado EV cargo platform is 1803 mm, but if you fold the wall and fold down the side, you can almost double it - up to 3302 mm.
The load capacity of a pickup truck, regardless of version, is 600 kg, the maximum weight of a towed trailer is 3.6-4.5 tons.
Inside, there is an 11-inch digital instrument panel, a 17-inch media system and a 14-inch head-up display. But this is about the RST option. What monitors are used in WT, the manufacturer does not specify. The media runs on the Ultifi operating system based on Linux.
Both versions are equipped with the PowerBase system, which consists of 10 connectors for powering external devices. From this station with a capacity of 10.2 kW, you can even recharge another electric car.
On a single battery charge, the Silverado EV is capable of driving up to 640 km.
In the native US, the novelty will go on sale in 2023, WT plans to sell at a price of $41,595, RST - from $105,000.
