General Motors Accidentally Spotted a Hybrid Chevrolet Corvette

Chevrolet

The appearance of a promising hybrid version of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car became known ahead of time - its images leaked through the configurator on the official Chevrolet website in the United States.

A fan of the model from the thematic resource MidEngineCorvetteForum managed to take screenshots of the images of the new modification before it was removed from the configurator.

The hybrid version of the Corvette will have the prefix E-Ray in the name. Outwardly, it will practically repeat the most powerful gasoline version of the model, which is indicated by the Z06 index. However, the hybrid is expected to have wider side air intakes and a full body-colored front bumper (without black inserts). In addition, the Corvette E-Ray exhaust pipes are spaced along the edges of the rear bumper, on the Z06 they are made in the center.

Instead of a 5.5-liter V8 under the LT6 index, a 6.2-liter LT2 engine with the same configuration will be installed, but it will be supplemented with electric motors that rotate the front wheels. That is, the Corvette will move away from the canons and become all-wheel drive. The estimated power of the power plant is 660 hp.

Earlier media reported that the Corvette E-Ray, in essence, will become the ideological heir to the Grand Sport configuration, last introduced in the Corvette family of the previous (seventh) generation. The debut of the novelty should take place in 2023. A fully electric version of the famous coupe will appear a little later, which may be called Zora. To date, the 8th generation Corvette is available in two main versions: Stingray (standard version) and Z06 (charged version).
