General Motors has retired its most powerful passenger car engine

Chevrolet

General Motors has stopped selling the LT5 compressor motor in the US in a “boxed” specification, that is, as a spare part. This is a milestone as the LT5 is the most powerful GM passenger car engine ever. It has a displacement of 6.2 liters, V8 configuration, produces 755 hp. and 969 Nm.

This engine debuted in 2018 in the previous-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 C7, which was produced in an edition of 300 units. Until now, the motor has also been sold through the Chevrolet Performance Parts network as a do-it-yourself swap kit or spare part. In the US, the price of the engine was $18,000. However, in September 2021, a message appeared on the Chevrolet Performance Parts website that the engine could not be ordered because the product had dropped out of the General Motors range. With this engine, the ZR1 could accelerate to 345 km/h.

Motor1 journalists claim that the LT5 engine will be replaced by a new 5.5-liter bi-turbo engine with a capacity of 825-850 hp, and in the top version of the Zora, which will debut tentatively in 2025, it will acquire a hybrid component with a total return of more than than 1000 hp According to rumors, GM mechanics are also working on its atmospheric version. Such an engine, with a constant volume, will be able to spin up to 9000 rpm and develop 615-625 hp, thanks to which the Corvette can step into the territory of Ferrari and Lamborghini cars.
