Bentley becomes part of Audi

Bentley

A major reorganization continues inside Volkswagen AG. It became known that the concern plans to make Bentley a subsidiary of its other division - Audi. This decision is dictated by the desire for economies of scale, that is, Bentley of the next generations want to completely unify the units and platforms with Audi.

The German business publication Automobilwoche, citing its own sources in the German company, reports that Herbert Diess, chief executive of Volkswagen AG, allegedly conceived the reshuffle. In the meantime, Bentley is supervised by the head of Porsche Oliver Bloom.

Diss believes that under the wing of Audi, the British luxury brand can get a new impetus for development. The Ingolstadt-based company will begin controlling Bentley's financial and technical assets as early as 2021.

The executive director of Volkswagen AG seeks to simplify the hierarchy within the concern. And this applies not only to reshuffles: in the fall it became known that the German giant was going to sell Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati.

Future models of Bentley and Audi will have more in common. There are already rumors about the preparation of identical executive-class electric sedans. In the Audi lineup, such a model will complement or even replace the A8.

As for the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur, which today run on the MSB platform from the Porsche Panamera, in their next generation they will switch to the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture being developed by Audi and Porsche.

Currently, Bentley reports directly to the head office of Volkswagen, that is, its legal status is equal to that of other brands of the concern.

Recall that Bentley was bought by Volkswagen AG in 1998.
