Honda Revives the Acura ZDX Name — World Premiere Held on August 17
Originally produced from 2009 to 2013, the Acura ZDX was a gasoline-powered sport crossover. In this new generation, the ZDX retains its sporty crossover identity but is now fully electric.
Developed in collaboration with General Motors, the vehicle is built on the American company’s Ultium platform.
Since North America is the primary target market for the ZDX, its design was crafted at Honda's studio in Los Angeles.
The exterior of the new ZDX closely resembles last year’s Precision EV Concept. The production model maintains the concept's distinctive proportions with a cabin pushed back, a long hood, and a short front overhang. However, the final design has been simplified — featuring larger air intakes, conventional side mirrors, door handles with a natural grip, and more modestly styled headlights and a closed-off panel resembling a grille. One striking feature is the negative slant of the front end, reminiscent of cars from the 1970s.
The car measures 5004 mm in length, 1955 mm in width, and 1625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3073 mm.
Buyers can choose between two versions — A-Spec and Type S.
The A-Spec model comes with either one or two electric motors. The single-motor version is rear-wheel drive, while the dual-motor version offers all-wheel drive. Both configurations deliver 340 horsepower.
The Type S model is all-wheel drive only, boasting a total power output of 500 horsepower.
The Acura ZDX is powered by a 102 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of 461 to 520 km on a full charge, depending on the variant.
Inside, the car features an 11-inch digital display and an 11.3-inch media system. The interior is finished with natural leather and aluminum accents. The premium package includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The Type S version not only offers more power but also includes height-adjustable air suspension, adaptive dampers, larger 22-inch wheels (compared to 20-inch on the A-Spec), upgraded brakes with 15.6-inch Brembo discs, and six-piston calipers.
The battery supports fast charging at 190 kW, allowing it to gain enough power for 130 km of range in just 10 minutes.
The Acura ZDX comes equipped with the Hands-Free Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, capable of hands-free operation on 400,000 miles (643,737 km) of roads across North America.
Production will take place in the U.S., with sales expected to begin in early 2024.
