Entire Acura lineup can get standard all-wheel drive

Acura

Acura brand management is considering equipping all of its vehicles with all-wheel drive as standard, writes Automotive News.

According to the head of Acura Fukuo Koichi, this development path is optimal for the brand. Acura's top management cites Subaru's similarly successful concept, which helped the firm achieve significant results in the 1990s.

Acura believes that the brand needs something different from competitors in the premium segment. It is noteworthy that almost half of Acura cars sold in the US are already sold with all-wheel drive. For comparison, in the United States, the number of all-wheel drive BMW and Audi, relative to the number of all cars sold of these brands, is 58% and 90%, respectively.

Acura currently has two optional all-wheel drive technologies - mechanical SH-AWD and hybrid Super Hybrid SH-AWD, which relies on the work of two electric motors.
