Acura NSX power train uses 10 radiators to cool

Acura

To maintain interest in the new generation of Acura NSX, the Japanese brand publishes small press releases that talk about interesting technical nuances of the supercar. Yesterday it became known that the car will receive ten radiators.

Three radiators will work to cool the internal combustion engine (one in front and two on the sides), two more are designed to cool the gearbox. The remaining radiators will cool other heat-loaded areas: in the turbocharging system and next to two electric motors on the front wheels and one on the rear axle.

The supercar is built on a space frame made of aluminum, ultra-high strength steel and carbon fiber (used in the underbody). Aluminum parts for the body, chassis and powertrain are made using a new casting technology that Acura says is a first in the automotive industry. The melt is poured into a casting mold, which is then washed out with jets of water, while cooling the metal itself. All this provides the finished parts with the necessary strength and elasticity. The A-pillars, as in the previous generation NSX, are made thin to improve visibility, but ultra-high-strength steel is used for their manufacture.

To improve the aerodynamics of the car, a whole series of tests was carried out in the USA and Japan, on race tracks and simulators. As a result, engineers have achieved the required downforce characteristics without the use of active aerodynamic elements.

Acura also confirmed that a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine will be used as the internal combustion engine. The unit has a 75 degree camber angle and is equipped with a dry sump lubrication system. The gearbox is a nine-speed "robot" with two clutches. Engineers positioned the engine and gearbox in such a way as to reduce the center of gravity and move it closer to the driver. The total power of the hybrid power plant, which includes an internal combustion engine and three electric motors, is about 550 hp. Drive — full (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD).

Recall that the acceptance of orders for the supercar will begin this summer. The side of the car will be carried out at a plant in the US city of Marysville (Ohio).
