Daihatsu exits the European market

Daihatsu

On January 13, 2011, the Daihatsu brand officially announced that it would stop selling new cars in the European market from January 31 this year.

The reason for this decision was the strong position of the Japanese yen in the world market, due to which the cost of Daihatsu brand cars cannot be kept at a competitive level. There are almost no new cars left in the European dealerships of the brand, further imports are not planned.

The Daihatsu model range in Europe is small. For example, only 5 models are offered in Germany: Cuore compact hatches (similar to Daihatsu Mira), Materia (similar to Daihatsu Coo and Toyota bB) and Sirion (similar to Daihatsu Boon and Toyota Passo), Daihatsu Copen small roadster and small SUV Terios (similar to Toyota Rush and Daihatsu Be-Go).

It is worth noting that Europe is not the first major market that Daihatsu leaves. In 1992, the brand ceased sales in the US, in 2005 - in Australia.
